How to Get the Wrinkles Out of a Folded Vinyl Banner

Vinyl banners are a favorite for promoting events, sales, and special occasions in Miami thanks to their durability and vivid colors. But when they’re stored folded, creases can form that affect their appearance. Here’s how to get those wrinkles out and keep your banner looking flawless.

1. Warm It Up (Safely)

  • In the sun: Take advantage of Miami’s sunshine. Lay the banner flat outdoors for a few hours to allow the heat to soften the vinyl and release any creases naturally.
  • Indoors: Lay it flat in a warm room, placing it near but not directly on a heat source to avoid damage.

2. Use a Hair Dryer or Heat Gun (With Care)

  • Set to low heat, hold 6–12 inches away from the surface.
  • Move it evenly over wrinkled spots, smoothing with your hand or a soft cloth.
  • Avoid holding heat in one place for too long to prevent warping.

3. Hang It Tight

  • Secure the banner taut using grommets, clips, or heavy-duty tape.
  • Leave it hanging for 24–48 hours so gravity can naturally ease out creases.

Outdoor Printing Ink Options

1. UV Inks

  • How it works: Cured instantly with UV light.
  • Pros: Extremely durable, fade-resistant, scratch-resistant, vivid colors.
  • Cons: Less flexible; can crack when bent.
  • Best for: Rigid surfaces and certain banners.

2. EcoSol Inks

  • How it works: Solvent-based, penetrates material, dries via evaporation.
  • Pros: Flexible, great for vinyl banners, weather-resistant.
  • Cons: Needs curing time; less scratch-resistant than UV or Latex.
  • Best for: Banners, decals, wraps.

3. Latex Inks

  • How it works: Water-based, cured with heat, eco-friendly.
  • Pros: Flexible, safe for indoor/outdoor, quick drying, no VOCs.
  • Cons: Requires specialized printers.
  • Best for: Banners, murals, textiles.

At Miami Banner Printing, our large-format banners sometimes need to be folded for shipping purposes. Folding reduces costs, especially for banners exceeding 8 feet on the shortest side, but rolled banners arrive in perfect condition without wrinkles.

If you’d like your banner rolled, please reach out ahead of time so we can organize freight delivery. Keep in mind that freight is slower and more costly than air shipping, but it avoids creasing. We recommend making your decision based on your delivery schedule and budget
